Principal Investigator
Tamaki Hosoda-Urban, PhD
Dr. Hosoda-Urban is a professor at Tottori University in the Department of Psychology, with a rich background in education and research across Japan and the U.S. She earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Northwestern University and completed a fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Licensed to practice psychology in both Japan and the U.S., she brings an international perspective and rigorous standards to her work. Her research delves into psychological trauma, child maltreatment, child welfare, pediatric psychology, and resilience. Dr. Hosoda-Urban is committed to advancing the field through research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and mentorship, aiming to improve therapeutic outcomes for affected individuals globally.

Tomoko Omoto
Tomoko began her graduate studies in 2024, focusing her research on the connection between the mind and body. She aims to deepen our understanding of this relationship and develop approaches that address both aspects for individuals dealing with physical illnesses or pain.
Yuzuki Taguchi
Yuzuki began her graduate studies in 2024, focusing her research on perinatal mental health and resilience. For her master’s thesis, she aims to delve deeper into these themes. Through a combination of research and clinical practice, she is committed to helping individuals lead fulfilling lives.
Rei Kawasaki
Rei began her graduate studies in 2024. She is interested in the mental health of children. Her research has focused on school absenteeism.
Yuko Ida
Yuko began her graduate studies in 2023, focusing her thesis on “The Effectiveness of Preparation for Pediatric Patients Undergoing Needle-Based Medical Procedures.” She has a passion for drawing and storytelling, which led her to collaborate with Professor Hosoda-Urban and her peers to create a picture book titled “It’s Okay to Be Angry, It’s Okay to Be Sad.” This book explains the concept of self-validation from Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Moving forward, she hopes to use illustrations and storytelling to make psychological skills and mental health resources more accessible to a wider audience.

Homare Nishida
Homare began his graduate studies in 2024 with an interest in the challenges that make life difficult for individuals. In Professor Hosoda-Urban’s lab, he has been inspired by various projects and hopes to develop his skills to become a mental health professional.
Yuka Hasegawa
Yuka began her graduate studies in 2024 with a strong interest in mental health at work. By participating in various seminars, she has been exploring a wide range of other topics. This has broadened her perspective, which she finds rewarding.
Mahiro Kitahara
Mahiro began her graduate studies in 2023, focusing her master’s thesis on “Challenges and Psychological Needs in High School Students’ Career Choices.” She is interested in trauma and post-traumatic growth, and under Professor Hosoda’s supervision, she has been trained in Prolonged Exposure Therapy. Throughout her graduate studies, she has acquired a wide range of skills and knowledge, which she has applied to clinical cases, allowing her to grow every day.
Yuriko Nishio
Yuriko began her graduate studies in 2023, focusing her thesis on “Investigating the Effects of the Latent Value Extraction Method on the Mental Health of University and Graduate Students.” This research aims to explore how this approach influences mental health.
